Clubs Success at Bristol
After an amazing start to the year and a huge intake of freshers BUBC made history when it took one of its’ largest ever fleets to the UBBC Head Race in Bristol last weekend. The 5 o’clock wake up well worth it after some excellent results were produced across the board.
The Senior Men’s VIII was first up competing in the intermediate category, they performed strongly and caught up with the Bath boat to finish 5th from 11. The Senior Men’s IV who were competing in the same category were not far behind and their excellent performance meant that they finished a very respectable 2nd from 7 and should be commended on beating 5 out of the 6 championship IV’s. Next up was the Senior Women’s crew who finished 7th from 9 in their first race of the season.
The highlight of the event was the introduction of the fresher boats into competitive racing; the fresher boys entered two Novice VIII’s into the 1.3km sprint, finishing 8th and 19th from 25 total entries. The girl’s did one better finishing 2nd and 5th from 7 in the Novice IV’s category, the only Novice VIII entry completed the day finishing 11th from 18. The day on the whole was terrifically successful and BUBC hope to improve on these results as the season continues…
Continuing on from this the club is hosting it’s first Canford Head Race between the club, Alumni and Canford. This is taking place on December 11th and they’ll be food, drink and entertainment on the bank throughout the day as well as cheering on the competitors.
