We are passionate about ensuring our athletes can access the right level of support to enable them to combine their sporting ambitions and academic studies. Our scholarships are designed to help you receive quality coaching and support services whilst mentoring your progress throughout your time at BU.

 

We offer two support programmes for elite athletes:

 

BU Sport Scholarship

EXCEL Scholarship

 

 

BU Sport Scholarship

Awards of £1,000, £3,000 or £5,000 (maximum of £500 for part-time students) are available to support you with the cost of coaching, equipment, competitions, travel expenses, entry fees or support services etc.

 

To be eligible for a BU Sport Scholarship, you need to be enrolled on an undergraduate or postgraduate course at BU and be capable of representing BU. Varsity athletes in the programme will ideally represent BU and/or club at national or international level.

 

There are certain criteria that athletes must adhere to:

 

A meeting with the Sports Performance Manager at the start of the year to identify goals and how the scholarship will assist you

Represent sportBU where possible as a member of the university sports team or representation at a specific competition

Commitment to attend at least 75% of training sessions and strength and conditioning sessions

Commit to photographic sessions and allow these photos to be used for promotional purposes

Promote the sporting profile of sportBU, provide information (termly and annual progress reports) regarding events and competitions that you have participated in

Assist sportBU in the promotion of sport at BU.

Please note our scholarships do not cover tuition fees or accommodation costs.

 

 

EXCEL Scholarship

EXCEL in your quest to combine sporting and academic excellence. We believe talent should be supported and nurtured. The EXCEL programme does just that, providing athletes with a support service that helps them develop both as an individual and on a team basis. If you’ve got what it takes, we can help you take it to the next level.

 

The EXCEL scholarships are available to talented athletes in all sports within the BUCS domestic programme, whatever your subject area.

 

To be eligible for an EXCEL Scholarship, athletes must be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate course at BU and be capable of representing BU. Varsity athletes in the EXCEL Programme will ideally represent BU and/or club at national or international standard.

 

Although no monetary value is attached to the scholarship, EXCEL athletes are provided with the following:

 

Free gym membership

Free training programme design

Free strength and conditioning training

Free weekly 30 minute sports massage therapy treatment

Free chiropractic treatments

Access to BASES accredited sport psychologist

The EXCEL scholarship is applied for annually and athletes need to apply at the start of each academic year. Please note our scholarships do not cover tuition fees or accommodation costs.
